Hartsville, SC- The Coker Cobras made come from behind win possible thanks to the stellar play of Lukas Varga. Varga took the Cobras and put them on his back scoring the final six points of a 54-51 win over the Belmont Abbey Crusaders on Saturday night. Coker moves to 6-14 overall, and 3-11 in the CVAC, while the Abbey falls to 5-14 overall, and 4-9 in the CVAC.

 

Coker was down by as many as seven with only seven minutes remaining in the game, but the Cobras battled back and tied the game at 49 with a 1:16 left and from there they never looked back.

 

The difference in the game came at the free-throw line, as Coker made 14-of-19 in the second half, while the Crusaders only made 9-of-14. Neither team was especially great shooting all night, as Coker shot only 35.4 percent from the floor, compared to the Abbey’s 33.9 percent.

 

Varga led all scorers with 24 points on the night, while Jason Fulwood added 12 points, all from beyond the arc. Boycho Branzov was a machine on the boards for Coker, grabbing 12 rebounds in the game.

 

Belmont Abbey was led by Sidney Hoff’s 21 points and nine rebounds. Brooks Beard also added eight points for the Crusaders.

 

Coker returns to the court on Thursday, February 8, as they host Erskine College for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
