Hartsville, SC- The Barton College Bulldogs showed why they are not only in first place in the CVAC, but also why they are  ranked 10th in the nation, as they easily knocked off the Cobras of Coker 84-52 on Monday night in collegiate basketball. With the win Barton improves to 13-5 overall, and 11-1 in the CVAC, while Coker drops to 5-13 overall, and 2-10 in the CVAC.

 

Coker kept things close through the first couple minutes, but by the end of the first half Barton had mounted a 16 point lead. The second half did not prove much better for Coker, as the Cobras shot just 38 percent from the field and were unable to cut into the Bulldog lead. The Cobras committed 25 turnovers on the night, leading to 25 Barton points.

 

For Coker, Jason Fulwood had 16 points, while Lukas Varga had 10 points and four rebounds.

 

Barton was led by Anthony Atkinson’s game high 22 points and six assists. Mark Friscone had double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Brian Leggett had 13 points and eight rebounds. Bobby Buffaloe was the fourth Bulldog in double figures, with 11 points and three rebounds.

 

Coker’s next game comes on Thursday, as they travel to Mount Olive for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off, while Barton hosts St. Andrews Presbyterian College at the same time.
