Hartsville, SC- The Coker Cobras earned their first Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference win on Saturday afternoon, as they defeated the Bobcats of Lees-McRae 70-64 in men’s collegiate basketball. The Cobras snapped their five game losing streak and improved to 4-11 overall, and 1-8 in the CVAC, while Lees-McRae falls to 3-11 overall, and 2-7 in the CVAC.

 

In a game that was a back and forth battle from the very start, both teams traded baskets through the whole first half. Through the first 20 minutes the Bobcats had a 30-29 lead.

 

In the second half Coker came out hot and shot 73 percent from the floor, while Lees-McRae shot just 30 percent. In the end Coker’s 41 second half points were just too much for the Bobcats to handle.

 

Coker was led by Ben Brim with 19 points, including going 4-for-6 from three-point land, while Ryan Fulwood had 11 points, three rebounds and three assists. Both Jason Fulwood and Lukas Varga finished the game with 10 points, with Jason Fulwood also adding four assists.

 

For the Bobcats, Mike Fox and Henry Williams each had 13 points, while Fox also had four rebounds. DJ Menifee had 10 points all coming from the free throw line, as he was a perfect 10-for-10, while Aaron Dugger also had 10 points and three rebounds.

 

The Cobras next game will be on Thursday, January 25, when they will travel to Anderson University for a 7:30 p.m. game.
