Hartsville, SC- With just seven seconds remaining in the game the Coker Cobras had a chance to tie, or beat the Falcons of Pfeiffer University as they trailed 88-86. Unfortunately for Coker, they could not get that shot to fall. Junior guard Ryan Fulwood received an inbound pass from his brother Jason and found an opening and drove the lane for a lay-up, but it lipped out and 18th ranked Pfeiffer came out with an 88-86 victory at Coker’s Timberlake-Lawton Gymnasium on Sunday night.

 

It was a fast paced game right from the start, that saw some great play on both sides of the court. 42 of the Cobras 86 points came from Coker’s “Bomb Squad” of Ryan Fulwood, Jason Fulwood and Ben Brim from behind that arc. The trio accounted for 12 of Coker’s 14 three pointers, shooting a combined 48 percent from three point range.

 

On the Pfeiffer side, DeMario Grier racked up 31 points, leading all scorers, six from beyond the arc; he shot an even 50 percent from the floor in the game, while also accumulating five rebounds and two steals.

 

In their second game of the week against a ranked opponent; the Cobras lost 77-70 to 12th ranked Barton College on Wednesday, Coker played very tough game. Ryan Fulwood led the way with 24 points, three rebounds and two assists, followed by Brim with 18 points, three steals and two assists. Jason Fulwood had 17 points, while Abram Ludd gave the Cobras 12 points, eight rebounds and three steals.

 

For the Falcons, Robert McGriff came off the bench with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Logan Call chipped in 13 points and eight rebounds. Cortland Thomas as the other Falcons with a double digit night, scoring 11 points in the game.

 

Coker now prepares for their next game against Morris College on Thursday, at Morris. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
