DUE WEST, S.C.--Coker connected on 15 of 30 3-point attempts and upset Erskine, 59-56, Monday in the first round of the CVAC men’s tournament.

The Cobras, ninth seeded in the tournament, will face top-seeded Barton Wednesday in Wilson, NC in the tournament quarterfinals. Coker will carry a 7-20 record into the game. Eighth seeded Erskine ended its season 11-17.

Counting a 4-point play, Coker scored 46 of its first 55 points from behind the arc before Ryan Fulwood and Blake Terrell sewed up the victory with four free throws in the final minute. Erskine’s Matt Odom missed a potential tying 3-pointer as time expired.

Fulwood hit six of seven 3-pointers and led all scorers with 21 points. Terrell had 16 points, including four of eight 3-pointers. Johnny Jackson scored 11 points, including three of five from behind the arc.

Erskine dominated the inside game, with post players Craig Williams and Lindo Sibankulu scoring 14 and 10 points respectively. Williams also had nine rebounds. Guard Jason Winecoff had 11 points for the Fleet. Erskine connected on only five of 15 3-pointers, however, allowing Coker to stack the middle and force 15 Erskine turnovers.

Tip-off for Coker’s game against Barton is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Barton College in Wilson, NC.
