HARTSVILLE , SC Belmont Abbey trailed by seven points at halftime but came back to defeat the visiting Coker Cobras 63-56 Saturday afternoon in men’s collegiate basketball.  The Crusaders connected on 16 of 19 free throws in the second half to fuel the come back.

 

   The Abbey trailed 31-24 at halftime after a dismal shooting percentage in the first period.  BAC managed only 26 percent from the floor but out-rebounded Coker 28-11 to keep the game close.  Belmont Abbey tied the game at the 10:00 minute mark in the second period but didn’t take the lead until a pair of free-throws by Damien Humphrey with 3:26 to play.  The Crusaders made five of six from the foul line in the final minute to hold off the Cobras.

 

   Humphrey recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Anthony Bell led all scorers with 20 points.  Johnny Jackson led CC with 16 points, while Ben Brim added 14 and Michael Pierce contributed 12 points. 

 

   The Abbey will next play a home non-conference game against North Greenville College on Wednesday, February 8, at 7:30 PM .
