WILSON, NC Four players scored in double figures Monday night as nationally 10th-ranked Barton College smoked visiting Coker 78-42 in NCAA D-II men’s basketball action.

 

The Bulldogs, winners of 10 straight and unbeaten in seven outings in the “Dog House,” improved to 15-1 overall and 12-0 in the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference. The Cobras exited at 5-13 overall and 4-8 in league action.

 

Barton trailed 10-7 five minutes into the game, but the Bulldogs rattled off 15 unanswered points for a 22-7 lead and coasted the rest of the way. They led 34-20 at halftime and 55-22 with 14:16 remaining. The Cobras, who hit but 1-of-19 shots from 3-point land and 26.9 percent from the floor, scored just 12 points in the 20 minutes of game time after taking the 10-7 lead.

 

Barton, off to the best start in school history, also dominated the backboards 49-28.

Alejo Barovero (15 points), Casey Moore (14), Mark Friscone (13) and Anthony Atkinson led the Barton assault. The 6-foot-5 Friscone (N. Royalton, Ohio) added a game-high 11 rebounds for a double-double and Atkinson notched six assists.

 

Only Ben Brim (10 points) scored in double figures for Coker.
