Hartsville, SC- Coker and Belmont Abbey looked to be a close game, when you compared the two teams on paper. Both teams came in with only one conference and two overall wins, but as with every game, someone has to go home with a loss and tonight it was the Cobras. Belmont Abbey defeated Coker 58-49 in collegiate basketball Monday night.

Belmont Abbey took advantage of some early Coker mistakes, as the Cobras committed 10 turnovers in the first half, while only making seven field goals. Going into the half Belmont had a five point lead and would later lead by as much as 15 early in the second half. Coker could not get any breaks and in turn dropped to 2-8 overall, and 1-4 in the CVAC, while the Crusaders improved to 3-6 overall, and 2-2 in the CVAC.

Leading the Cobra offense was senior Johnny Jackson/Hartsville, SC, who score in double figures for the tenth straight game, scoring 15 in tonight’s contest with three rebounds and three assists. Also scoring double figures for Coker was junior Abram Ludd/Sumter, SC, who finished with 11 points and five rebounds.

The Crusader’s offense was lead by Damien Humphrey with a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Anthony Bell added 11 points and six rebounds of his own. Greg LaVann rounded out the top scores with 10 points and three rebounds in the victory for Belmont.

Coker takes a five day break, before they return to the court, as they travel to North Greenville College on Saturday, January 14. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
