Hartsville, SC- In their first home games since a month long holiday break the Coker Cobra Basketball Teams, both took hard losses to the visiting Bulldogs of Barton College. The women’s game saw the Lady Cobras fall for the second time this week, as Barton defeated Coker 78-44. The Coker Men did not fair much better, losing 81-60. The women now drop to 2-5 overall, and 2-2 in the CVAC, while the men fall to 2-6 overall, and 1-2 in the CVAC.

The men’s game looked to be a very exciting game, as each team came out hard and fast right from the start. Things slowed down slightly and at the half the Bulldogs had a six point lead on the Cobras. However, the second half brought a renewed Barton team to the court and the Cobras could not catch up, as the Bulldogs outscored the Cobras by 13 in the second half.

Junior Abram Ludd/Sumter, SC, lead the way for the Cobra offense, with 13 points and eight rebounds while, senior Johnny Jackson/Hartsville, SC, added 14 points to the Coker effort. Jackson has scored in double figures in all eight games so far this season. Coker also had four players finish with six points each, Blake Terrell/Marietta, GA, Ryan Fulwood/Cumming, GA, Tim Smyth/Florence, SC, and Michael Pierce/Whiteville, NC.

For the Bulldogs, like the women before them, four Barton men scored in double figures. Anthony Atkinson had 20 points, Casey Moore had 15 points and nine rebounds, Brian Leggett added 14 points and seven rebounds and finally Alejo Barovero had 13 points and two rebounds. As a team the Bulldogs shot 51 percent from the field for the game and shot 42 percent from beyond the arc.

The Cobras return to action on Saturday, January 7, with a double header at Pfeiffer University. The women play first at 2 p.m., followed by the men tipping-off at 4 p.m. Meanwhile Barton will be on the road again, as they travel to Due West, SC to face Erskine College, also on Saturday January 7.
