Andrew Smith Named New Esports Head Coach

Hartsville, SC- Andrew Smith was hired as the Head Esport Coach on April 3, 2023. He has served as the interim head coach since November 2022. He is a native of Grand Rapids, MI, Smith earned his Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Cornerstone University in 2016.

"We are excited to have Andrew join Coker Athletics as our head Esports coach," said Griffin."Andrew has served as the interim coach since November and has proven that he has the experience to grow and develop our team. I look forward to watching him build upon the success
that the program has experienced"


For the past eight years, Smith has worked in customer service and management roles at Dick's
Sporting Goods, Whirlpool, and Blue Cross Blue Shield. 

"I'm excited to join the Coker staff in this capacity. I'm grateful to Dr. Griffin for the opportunity to serve the Esports team's student-athletes and bring my knowledge of this growing sport to Coker. The team is talented and already working hard to be in a competitive spot for the
fall, and I look forward to working with them to be successful in the game and in the
classroom."


Andrew has been an avid Esports competitor for nearly 12 years. He played competitively from 2011-2015 and still enjoys playing in leagues for Call of Duty. He closely follows the professional leagues in Call of Duty, League of Legends, Valorant, and Counter-Strike. His
his favorite Esports team is OpTic.
