Coker Esports Defeats Clayton State in Peach Belt Conference Overwatch Action

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker University Esports Hearthstone team took on Rochester Institute of Technology in the Tespa Open Division, while the Overwatch team took on Clayton State in a Peach Belt Conference Overwatch Matchup on Thursday (Nov. 9). 

The Hearthstone match started with Coker bringing their Highlander Hunter, Resurrect priest, and Soul Demon Hunter. RIT brought Soul Demon Hunter, Bomb Warrior, and Highlander Face Hunter. The first game was Coker's Priest versus RIT's Hunter. Coker was able to survive the early damage to win the first game. The second game was a Hunter versus Hunter mirror. RIT was able to push early game damage to win game two. Game three was Coker's Demon Hunter versus RIT's Hunter. Coker pushed for an early advantage and was able to find Savage Roar through Zephrys on turn seven to win the game. Game four was a Demon Hunter mirror, and just like the Hunter mirror, RIT was able to get the early advantage and lead it to a victory. The final game was Coker's Demon Hunter versus RIT's Warrior. Coker was unable to get through the Warrior armor, leading to a 3-2 RIT victory. 

The first map was Lijiang Tower in the Overwatch matchup. The first round started with Coker taking the point and holding it for the entirety of the round. In the second round Coker kept their momentum going by taking the point and holding it until 97 percent. Coker was able to get the point back after Clayton got to 40 percent to win the map 2-0. The second map was Hollywoodand. Coker started on the attack, and they were able to push through the map quickly, having almost six minutes left on their clock. Coker was then able to hold Clayton at the first point to win the match 2-0. 

The Cobras will be back in action on Monday (Nov. 9) when they compete in the Hearthstone Open Division at 7:00 P.M.
