ESports Falls to Ashland in Open Division Hearthstone Monday Night

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker University ESports team fell in its Open Division Hearthstone season opener on Monday (Sept. 21) to Ashland University by a score of 3-0.

Coker brought their Face Hunter, Agro Demon Hunter, and Token Druid Deck while Ashland brought their Libram Paladin, Highlander mage, and Big Warrior.

The first game was Coker's Hunter against Ashland's Mage. Coker's deck is dependent on secrets and were luckily able to draw one early. Ashland was able to control the board early, and not allow Coker to get any momentum. Coker was able to eventually get board control but by then Ashland had a lot of mana to use their board clear spells, giving the first win to Ashland.

The second match was Coker's Hunter against Ashland's Paladin. While Coker has a good opening turn, they were unable to deal with the buffed up paladin minions. Coker was unable to push damage through the taunts, giving the game to Ashland.

The last deck left for Ashland was their Warrior and Coker put out their Hunter against it in the final match of the night. Coker was able to apply a lot of early pressure, but Ashland was able to get a 12/12 taunt with Divine shield early to win the game and the match.

The Cobras return to action on Thursday (Sept. 24) in Open Division Hearthstone. Video for the match will be available at www.cokercobras.com.
