Coker Drops 3-2 Hearthstone Decision to Jamestown Friday Night

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - Coker University ESports dropped a 3-2 decision to the University of Jamestown in Varsity Division Hearthstone Friday night (June 12).

The Cobras faced off against the University of Jamestown in the Varsity Division of the Hearthstone Tournament. The first match was Coker's Warrior against Jamestown's Demon Hunter. Both decks want to get board advantage and win with early game tempo. Jamestown was able to get an early advantage, and Coker was unable to answer it, giving UJ the first win.

The second matchup was Coker's Paladin versus Jametown's Hunter. Coker's Paladin takes advantage of cheap small creatures to accumulate a board state that is difficult to answer, while Hunter relies on high value cards to swing the game in their favor. Coker was able to get a board early on that Jamestown was unable to answer, equalizes the match at 1-1.

The third game was versus the two decks each team lost with Coker's Warrior and Jamestown's Hunter. This time Coker was unable to make a board stick as Jamestown found answers to win game three.

For game four, Coker stuck with their Warrior while Jamestown brought their Druid. Jamestown's Druid relies on cheap spells and minions with spell power to win the game. On turn nine, Coker needed one more damage or one more mana to win the game, and on turn 10 they were again one damage off. On turn 11, Coker was able to draw Ironbeak Owl (one of the original cards of the game) to silence a taunt and win the game. Last game was Coker's Rogue vs Jamestown's Druid. Coker's Rogue deck is all about using secrets to confuse your opponent and Galakrond to get massive value from your cards. Coker was able to get multiple secrets from Shadowjeweler Hanar, making the beginning of the game awkward for UJ.

Jamestown was able to answer with a full board of beasts from Exotic Mountseller, forcing Coker with a full board on turn seven. Coker was never able tor recover and Jamestown won the game and match 3-2.
