Coker Esports Comes Up Short in a Trio of Matches

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker University Esports team competed in the Tespa Varsity Series, League of Legends, and Hearthstone Open division on Tuesday (Mar. 10).

The Coker University Esports team Cobras faced off against Murray State in the Tespa Varsity Series. The first map was Oasis, and Murray State showed their strength on this map by winning the first two rounds without giving a single percentage to the Cobras. The second map was Dorado, and although Coker was into a few speed bumps they were able to push the cart just short of the final checkpoint. Now it was their turn to hold off Murray State but the Racers were able to cap the point with just 20 seconds remaining to win the match 2-0.

Coker played in week two of the Hearthstone Open Division. The first match was Coker's Mech Paladin vs Galakrond Rogue, and the Rogue was able to control the board and not allow Coker to create a Big Mech minion, giving the win to the rogue. The second round was Coker's Mech Paladin vs Highlander Mage and it went in a similar fashion to the first. Coker was unable to create a big mech and it resulted in their loss. The third round was Resurrect Priest vs Highlander Hunter. Coker took some early damage and just as they were starting to heal back up, the Hunter was able to find lethal to win the match 3-0.

Coker faced Florida Southern in Peach Belt Conference play. In the first game Coker was able to get a few kills on their ADC, Alex Mueller, but they were not able to handle the pressure that Florida Southern was able to put out. For the second game the kills went over to the Jungler, Blake Pack, but Florida Southern was able to use their early game pressure to take over the game, and not allow Coker to get objectives. This gave Florida Southern a 2-0 win this week.
