Baseball Takes Down Limestone in Day One of Conference Series

Hartsville, S.C. - The Coker University Baseball team defeated Limestone University today (Mar. 25) 7-5 at home in day one action of the weekend South Atlantic Conference series. 

 

Limestone would score a run in the first to take a 1-0 advantage into the second. After a Drew Klaserner double, Kody Hanna would launch a two-run rocket to the opposite field over the left-field wall to put Coker up 2-1.  

 

Coker would add one more run in the bottom of the third when Phill Griffor's RBI single to right would score Cory Listing, who had reached earlier from a single through the left side to make it 3-1. 

 

Limestone would plate runs in the fourth and fifth innings to tie the game at 3-3. 

 

Coker would plate three runs in the home half of the fifth to take the lead over the Saints. First, on Griffor's go-ahead RBI single through the left side scored Listing. On the very next play, Klaserner would smash a two-RBI double to left-center, scoring Reilly Hall and Griffor to put the Cobras up 6-3. 

 

Listing's RBI sacrifice fly to center would plate Bryan Castillo, giving Coker an insurance run at 7-3.

 

Limestone would try to mount a comeback, hitting a two-out two-run home run in the seventh but the Coker defense would hold strong, securing the 7-5 win. 

 

Offensively, the Cobra bats stayed hot as Griffor and Klaserner both recorded two hits and two RBI. Coker as a whole totaled seven hits. 

 

Brendan Mullins picked up the win for Coker, striking out four over 5.0 innings of work. Griffin Hollifield picked up the save, his fourth of the year, and also tying him for the most career saves in program history at 14. Hollifield struck out two over 2.0 innings of work.
