C.G. Timberlake Male Athlete of the Year Larry McCabe Signs Professional Contract

HARTSVILLE, S.C. -- Larry McCabe, the 2019 C.G. Timberlake Male Athlete of the Year award winner for the Coker College baseball team, has signed a contract to play professional baseball in the United Shore Professional Baseball League.

McCabe just completed one of the best offensive seasons in Coker baseball history, batting .333 with 10 home runs and 41 RBI. His 10 home runs were tied for the second most in a single season in school history, and he finished his Coker career with the second most home runs in Coker history. McCabe led the South Atlantic Conference with five triples during the 2019 season, and now ranks seventh all-time in school history in triples.

"Larry had a great year and it's awesome to see him get the opportunity to play professional baseball coming out of Coker", says coach Luke Harrigan. "The past two years the USPBL has been highly scouted and former players in that league are at all levels of minor league ball. Jim Essian, the manager of the Utica team, and someone that has signed several of my former players, called me in search of a first baseman with power, and Larry was definitely that guy for us all year."

McCabe notched the first hit of his professional baseball career on Sunday (May 12th) in Utica's Mother's Day game against Eastside. McCabe started the game at first base, scored a run, and recorded six putouts. Fans can follow McCabe's journey through the USPBL online at https://uspbl.com/.
