Coker Baseball Defeats Augusta 8-6

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The Coker College baseball team defeated the Augusta University Jaguars 8-6 in non-conference action on Tuesday (Apr. 16).

The Cobras erupted for six runs in the top of the fifth inning to jump out to a 6-4 lead. Evan Pawlowski opened the inning with a single, followed by a Jaiden Garner double down the left field line. Grant Thompson then roped an RBI single, scoring Pawlowski, and Casey Demko knocked in a run on a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 4-2.

Reilly Hall reached on an error, and Larry McCabe walked, loading the bases for RJ Ball. Ball doubled down the left field line, clearing the bases and giving the Cobras a 5-4 advantage. KJ Curry followed with a single up the middle later in the inning to complete the scoring.

Coker added a run in the seventh off a Larry McCabe single, and then Reilly Hall hit his fifth home run of the season in the top of the ninth inning to score the Cobras eighth and final run.

Michael DeLeo picked up his third win of the season, pitching six innings and striking out five batters. Drake Knight was superb in the bullpen, notching his fifth save of the season with three innings of two-hit relief.

The Cobras will be back in action on Friday (Apr. 19) when they wrap up their South Atlantic Conference schedule with the beginning of a three-game series at Carson-Newman. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
