HARTSVILLE, S.C. -- The Coker College baseball team split a doubleheader with Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday (Feb. 8), losing the first game before picking up a big 6-3 victory in game two.

Jon Koski was the story for the Cobras in game two, pitching six innings, allowing just two runs, and striking out eight batters.

The Cobras scored their first run in the bottom of the first, when RJ Ball hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Grant Thompson. Thompson and Chase Bruno began the inning with back-to-back singles, giving Ball the opportunity for the sacrifice fly.

Coker struck for four more runs in the bottom of the second. Reilly Hall and Evan Pawlowski started the inning with singles, and then Larry McCabe drew a clutch walk to load the bases full of Cobras. Casey Demko was hit by a pitch, scoring Hall, and then Thompson came through with a bases-clearing double to right center to put Coker ahead 5-0. Thompson ended the game 2-4 with a run scored and three RBI. He's hit safely in all seven games so far this year, and has already post five multi-hit games.

The Cobras added an insurance run in the sixth inning, thanks to a two-out single by Demko, scoring McCabe after McCabe tripled earlier in the inning.

The Panthers threatened in the seventh, getting the tying run to the plate, but Griffin Hollifield managed to escape, allowing just one run and preserving the 6-3 victory.

The Cobras will be back in action on Saturday (Feb. 9) when they face Kentucky Wesleyan for another doubleheader. First pitch is set for 12 pm and 3 pm at Tom J. New Field at Dave Schmotzer Stadium.
