Cobras to Host Chowan for the Season Opening Series

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- On Saturday (Feb. 3) the Coker College baseball team will host the visiting Chowan University Hawks in a doubleheader to begin the 2018 campaign. In the non-conference contest, the Cobras and Hawks will play two, seven-inning games, with game one beginning at 12:00 p.m. Game two will start approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one. 

The Navy and Gold head into the season with Griffin Hollifield being selected to the South Atlantic Conference Preseason First Team as a relief pitcher.

Last season Coker and Chowan opened their seasons against each other, splitting the four-game series, 2-2. The Cobras outscored the Hawks by a score of 25-20 over the course of the weekend.

Bryson Conner and Thomas Lopez bring upperclassman leadership to the infield for Coker, as last season Conner provided a .294 batting average and .413 on-base percentage. Lopez averaged .306 at the plate while driving in 36 runs on 44 hits with nine doubles.

Game one is set for a 12:00 p.m. start, with the gates of Tom J. New Field at Dave Schmotzer Stadium opening at 11:00 a.m. Game two will begin approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
