NEWBERRY, S.C.- Coker baseball dropped its South Atlantic Conference doubleheader on Saturday (Apr. 8) and was ultimately swept in the series at Newberry.

Coker dropped game one on the day 14-4 and the nightcap 7-0.

Game one saw Newberry score six runs in the first inning, but left the Cobras plenty of game to catch up. A Jon Koski RBI single and a Thomas Lopez sacrifice fly in the third got Coker on the board and cut the deficit to four runs. The Cobras got a little closer the following inning thanks to a Tanner Crosby RBI double, making it a 6-3 ballgame. The Wolves scored four runs apiece in the seventh and eighth innings to pull away and clinch the series win.

Koski and Lopez each collected two hits in the game, with Darius Coldiron, Crosby and Clint Allen each chipped in one. Forrest Arnold (4-2) took the loss in the contest, throwing 6.1 innings. The right-hander allowed six earned runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out five. Larry Parker made his second appearance of the season, allowing four earned runs on two hits in one inning while issuing four walks. Joey Carpenter threw 0.2 innings in relief, allowing one hit and punching out one.

Newberry would take the second game from the very beginning, scoring five runs in the first two innings.

Crosby led the offense in the game, going 2-3. Coldiron, Bryson Conner and Allen each added one hit in the loss. Cody Brown took the loss in the nightcap, allowing five earned runs on four hits with three walks over one inning. Griffin Hollifield pitched five innings in relief, allowing two earned runs on five hits while surrendering one free pass and punching out two.

Coker returns home on Tuesday (Apr. 11) for a non-conference game with North Greenville. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. at Tom J. New Field at Dave Schmotzer Stadium. Tickets for the game are $5 for adults, $3 for students and free to all Coker faculty, staff and students.
