Cobras Split Twinbill, Drop SAC Series

JEFFERSON CITY, TENN.- Coker baseball split its Saturday doubleheader and dropped the series 2-1 winning game one 4-3 and losing the nightcap 6-1.

Colton Henthorne's ninth inning opposite field homerun, the first of his career gave the Cobras the 4-3 lead for good in game one. The freshman also knocked a double in the game. Clint Allen and AJ Strnad also recorded two hits, along with Will Winslow, Ryan Wayne and Scott Burnley each picked up one. The Cobras drew first blood in the third inning plating two, before the Eagles would score one run in each of the next three innings for a 3-2 lead. The Cobras would tie the game in the seventh, with Burnley leading off the inning with a single up the middle. Henthorne would advance Burnley to second with a sacrifice bunt, followed up by a Strnad walk. Bryson Conner would chop a pitch back to the mound, and Strnad was forced out at second. Attempting to turn the double play, the ball was thrown away by Carson Newman's shortstop allowing Burnley to round third and score the unearned run. 

Coker would drop the rubber game 6-1, collecting five hits as a team. Charlie Burguieres, Winslow, Thomas Lopez, Allen and Henthorne recorded hits in the loss. Will Sutton (2-2) took the loss, tossing three innings allowing four earned runs on four hits while walking two and striking out one. Jake Moore fired two scoreless innings of relief and Ben Brown also made a relief appearance.

Anthony Scaccia (4-2) collected the win in relief in the contest, firing three scoreless innings and scattering two hits while walking one and punching out two. The southpaw relieved starter Forrest Arnold, who tossed five innings allowing three earned runs on six hits. The right-hander issued three free passes and struck out three. Will Sutton collected his first save of the season, firing a scoreless inning punching out one. 

The Cobras will take the field again on Wednesday (Mar. 30) when they travel to Claflin. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
