Coker Announces Search Committee for Baseball Coach

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker College vice president of athletics and athletic facilities Dr. Lynn Griffin announced today that a search committee has been formed as the College begins the search for a new head baseball coach. The committee is tasked with finding a replacement for Coker's long-time head coach Dave Schmotzer, who announced he will retire in July 2016 after 24 years and more than 600 victories at Coker.

The search committee will provide the college administration with input on the process and on the candidates. Members of the committee include: Coker's faculty athletic representative Dr. Karen Carpenter, Coker's director of alumni engagement Shelli Wilson, Coker's director of graduate admissions and external enrollment Ben Beetch '10, Coker's head men's soccer coach Chris Williams, current sophomore Coker baseball player and Benji Blanton Endowed Scholarship recipient Bryson Conner, and Coker baseball alum and 2015 Coker Hall of Fame inductee John Curnias '96.

"We are underway in our search process," said Griffin, "and, as expected, there is already a tremendous amount of interest in Coker baseball.  We will work diligently to find a great fit for Coker and I want to thank in advance the members of the search committee for their dedication to Coker College and Coker athletics."
