Cobras Stall Flying Fleet Comeback Effort

ERSKINE, S.C.-  Coker baseball held off a late-inning comeback effort and defeated Erskine 10-8 in game one of the non-conference three game set.

Scoring in five different innings including a four-run fourth powered the Cobras to take the opener. Clint Allen opened up the frame with a single, before AJ Strnad walked and Will Winslow was hit by a pitch to load the bases. With one out, Darius Coldiron bounced a grounder to short that was thrown away, allowing Coldiron to move up to second and Strnad and Winslow to score. With two outs and two runners in scoring position, Miguel Frias knocked a double to plate both runners.

Anthony Scaccia (2-0) picked up the decision in the contest. The southpaw fired 2.1 innings allowing two earned runs on four hits. The hard-throwing senior also issued one free pass.

Four Cobras recorded multi-hit games on the day. Winslow notched a 2-5 day with two RBI and two runs scored, while Thomas Lopez also registered two hits. Michael Orlowski was 3-5 with one RBI and two runs scored on the day, and Allen went 3-4 scoring one run and knocking one in.

The Cobras will finish up the three-game set with a doubleheader tomorrow. First pitch is set for high noon.
