Coker Falls to No. 20 UNCP

PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Coker Cobra baseball team suffered an 11-2 loss to the No. 20 UNC Pembroke Braves on Wednesday (April 9) in NCAA Division II baseball action.

The Cobras plated two runs during the game. The first came off an RBI single by Fico Kondla in the fourth, and the second was a solo homer by Ernie Kirkwood in the ninth. Defensively, Coker held the Braves scoreless in seven of the nine innings. UNCP scored three runs in the third and eight in the sixth.

Forrest Arnold (3-2) was tagged with the loss. He allowed seven runs on nine hits with three strikeouts in five and a third innings of work. 

Kirkwood and Kondla led the Cobras at the plate. Kirkwood was 1-for-3 with a home run, an RBI and a run scored, while Kondla was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Also collecting hits for Coker were Jarren Donato, T.J. Giczkowski and Shea Bell.

The Cobras will return home for their next series that begins on Friday (April 11) against the Newberry College Wolves. The Cobras and the Wolves will take the field for game one of their three-game South Atlantic Conference series at 3 p.m. at Coker's Tom J. New Field.
