Coker Baseball Looks to Dethrone Knights at Home

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College baseball team will play host to the St. Andrews University Knights on Tuesday (April 1) in a nine inning non-conference matchup.

The Cobras brought home a road win earlier in March against the Knights with a 5-1 victory. They will be looking for a repeat performance on Tuesday.  

The Navy and Yellow come into the non-conference match up sporting a 17-14 overall record. Offensively, the senior trio of Ernie Kirkwood, T.J. Giczkowski, and Fico Kondla leads the way. Kirkwood continues his stellar play at the plate leading the team in batting average at .339, RBIs with 28, doubles with seven and triples with six. His six triples are good enough for tops in the conference and his 28 RBIs are rank him tenth in the conference. Giczkowski's .327 batting average is third best on the team and his 24 RBIs and 16 stolen bases are good enough for second best in the lineup. Kondla comes into the game with a .314 batting average, 20 RBIs and a conference leading 21 stolen bases. As a team, the Cobras have 89 stolen bases on the season, which is best in the conference by over 40 bags and second best in Division II.

The pitching staff is led by sophomore Matt Prosser and freshman Ben Brown. Prosser comes in with a team best 3.31 ERA and 45 strikeouts to go along with a 4-3 record in 54.1 innings. Brown comes in sporting a 3.51 ERA with a 4-2 record in 48.2 innings.

The Knights come to Tom J. New Field with a 17-13 record and are led by Michael Durig who is batting .330 and has 28 RBIs on the season. The pitching staff is led by Chris Fee who has a perfect 5-0 record on the season with a 1.58 ERA.
