Coker’s Loraine Named to All-America Team

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker College's Zach Loraine has been named to the 2013 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-America baseball team. Loraine was an honorable mention selection as a utility player and pitcher.

Loraine, a junior, is a right-handed pitcher and designated hitter. He serves as the Cobras' closer and boasts a 5-2 record with a 2.40 ERA. He has a Division II-leading 15 saves with 65 strikeouts over 60 innings of work. At the plate he has a .331 average with three homers, three triples, 15 doubles, 37 RBIs, 48 runs scored and 20 steals.

In the most recent tournament for Coker, the NCAA Southeast regional, Loraine was a big part of the team's success. Offensively, he hit .421 with four RBIs, five runs scored and one stolen base. On the mound, over two appearances, he threw 5 1-3 innings of shutout baseball. He allowed three hits and struck out nine.

This is the sixth award for Loraine this season. In addition to being named an All-American, he has been named second team all-region by the American Baseball Coaches Association, first team all-region by Daktronics and a second team all-region pick by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Loraine has also been the NCBWA Southeast pitcher of the week and the Conference Carolinas pitcher of the week.

Loraine, a native of Lake St. Louis, Mo., is a physical education and sport studies major with a concentration in exercise science at Coker. He is the son of Lance and Eva Loraine.

The Coker baseball team (38-14) defeated Georgia College to win the NCAA Southeast regional tournament. The Cobras earned their first-ever birth into the NCAA Division II Baseball National Finals. They take on the University of Tampa in their first game at 1 p.m. Sunday in Cary, N.C.
