HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker College's Andrew Goot has been named the Conference Carolinas Spring Scholar Athlete of the Year for baseball.

Goot is a junior right-handed pitcher for the Cobras. Converting from starter to reliever this season, Goot had a strong year out of the bullpen. He's posted an 8-0 record with one save and a 4.33 ERA and 61 strikeouts over 65 1-3 innings. He recently threw three innings in the NCAA Southeast regional that the Cobras won.

Along with being the conference's spring scholar athlete of the year, Goot was a two-time conference pitcher of the week and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Southeast region pitcher of the week this season.

Off the field, Goot is a history major at Coker. He is a three-time presidential honor roll selection and was named academic all-conference this season.

Goot is originally from Oldsmar, Fla. He is the son of Robert and Joanne Goot.

The Coker baseball team (38-14) recently defeated Georgia College to win the NCAA Southeast regional tournament. The Cobras earned their first-ever birth into the NCAA Division II Baseball National Finals. Their first game is against the University of Tampa at 1 p.m. Sunday in Cary, N.C.

Conference Carolinas is an NCAA Division II athletic conference made up of 12 teams from North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. These institutions consist of: Barton College, Belmont Abbey College, Coker College, Converse College, Erskine College, King College, Lees-McRae College, Limestone College, Mount Olive College, North Greenville University, Pfeiffer University and Queens University of Charlotte.
