Coker Earns No. 4 Seed, Will Play Armstong in Opening Round of NCAA Southeast Regional

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College baseball team has earned the No. 4 seed in the 2013 NCAA Southeast Region Baseball Tournament, and they will play the No. 3 seed Armstrong Pirates on Thursday (May 16) in the opening round of the tournament at Mount Olive College. The announcement was made late Sunday night during the NCAA Division II Baseball Selection Show.

The host school, Mount Olive, earned the No. 1 seed, USC Aiken is the No. 2 seed, Georgia College and State University will be the No. 5 seed and Lincoln Memorial University rounds out the field as the No. 6 seed.

The six-team double elimination tournament will be played at Mount Olive's Scarborough Field, Thursday (May 16) through Sunday (May 19). Coker (34-14) and Armstrong (31-15) will play the opening game of the tournament at 11 a.m. Thursday, followed by USC Aiken (41-11) versus Georgia College (33-17) at 3 p.m. and finally Mount Olive (46-6) and Lincoln Memorial (26-24) will play at 7 p.m.

Games are scheduled for 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. each of the first three days and the championship game is slated for Sunday at 1 p.m. A second game could be played Sunday if necessary.

The Cobras earned an automatic bid to the tournament by winning the 2013 Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship on Apr. 28. This is Coker's first trip to the NCAA Tournament.

The Southeast Region champion will join the other seven regional champions at the NCAA Division II National Finals May 25-June 1 at USA Baseball National Training Center in Cary, N.C.
