Cobras Split Regular Season Finale with Fleet

DUE WEST, S.C. – The Coker Cobras split their Conference Carolinas baseball double-header with the Erskine Flying Fleet on Saturday (Apr. 20), winning 3-0 and losing 7-2. Coker moves to 29-13 overall and 14-9 in league play. Currently, the Cobras are in second place in the conference standings.

Game one was dominated by Dan Meyer's (5-3) outstanding performance on the mound. The senior left-hander kept the Fleet off balance for nine innings as he threw a four-hit, complete game shutout for the Cobras. Along the way Meyer fanned seven Erskine batters and did not allow a single walk.

Frank Suarez and Keith Wolf had two hits each, while T.J. Giczkowski, Zach Loraine and Fico Kondla each drove in a run.

In game two, Erskine jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first inning and they never looked back. The Cobras kept the Fleet off the board for the next three innings, but a run in fifth made 6-0 in favor of Erskine. Coker scored a pair of runs in the sixth and the Fleet tacked on another in the bottom of the inning for a 7-2 final.

Wolf and Brinley Griffin drove in Coker's two runs and Loriane had a double to lead the Cobras at the plate in game two.

Tyler Witzel (7-4) suffered the loss on the hill. He allowed five runs on four hits in two-thirds of an inning of work.

The Cobras will be back on the diamond on Thursday (Apr. 25) in the opening round of the 2013 Conference Carolinas baseball tournament. Final seedings and game times for the tournament will be determined after all teams have completed the regular season.
