Coker Makes it Six in a Row with 10-5 Win Over Newberry

NEWBERRY, S.C. – With a 10-5 victory over the Newberry Wolves, the Cobra baseball team picked up its 6th straight win on Monday (Apr. 8) evening.

Coker (24-11) scored two runs in the second inning thanks to a two-run single to center by Frank Suarez. A pair of RBI singles by Brinley Griffin and Fico Kondla, along with a two-run double from Ernie Kirkwood put the Cobras up 6-0 in the third. Newberry scored two runs in the fourth, a run in the fifth and another in the seventh to make it a 6-4 game heading to the eighth.

The Cobras added four runs in the top of the eighth, while the Wolves tacked on a single run in the bottom of the inning and after a scoreless ninth, Coker took home the 10-5 victory.

Kirkwood finished the game going 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and three RBIs to lead the Cobras. Shea Bell and Kondla drove in a run and had a pair of hits, while Suarez drove in two runs. Zach Loraine also had two hits including a double with a two runs scored.

Andrew Goot (6-0) picked up the win, allowed two runs on three hits with two strikeouts in three innings of work on the mound.

The Cobras will be back in action on Tuesday (Apr. 9) in another road game at St. Augustine's College. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.
