Seven Run Inning Propels Coker to 13-4 Win over Benedict

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker Cobras scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to propel them to a 13-4 win over Benedict College in collegiate baseball action on Wednesday (Mar. 27). With the win the Cobras improve to 19-11 on the year.

The Cobras and the Tigers exchanged runs in the second and third innings to tie the game at two. Benedict took their only lead of the game with a run in the fourth, but Coker answered with seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 9-3 ball game. Coker tacked on four more runs in the seventh and eighth, cruising to a 13-4 victory.

Shea Bell was the leading hitter for Coker. He went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, while T.J. Giczkowski and Chase Spivey each drove in two runs. Frank Suarez and Fico Kondla each collected two hits, including a double with an RBI and Brinley Griffin also had a pair of hits.

Andrew Goot (4-0) picked up the win on the mound. He tossed two shutout innings, scattering two hits with a strikeout. As a staff the eight Cobra pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts, allowing just three earned runs on eight hits.

Coker will return to action on Friday (Mar. 29) and Saturday (Mar. 30) at home against North Greenville University. The Cobras will play a three-game Conference Carolinas series against the Crusaders, with a game on Friday at 3 p.m., followed by a double-header on Saturday at noon.
