Cobras Hold on to Defeat the Wolves 7-5

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker baseball team completed their two-game sweep of the West Georgia Wolves with a 7-5 win on Wednesday (Mar. 20) afternoon. With the win, the regionally ranked No. 7 Cobras improve their record to 18-8.

The Cobras kept the Wolves off the board through seven innings, while posting six runs, taking a 6-0 advantage into the eighth. West Georgia scored five unanswered runs between the eighth and ninth innings, but Coker managed to hold on for the 7-5 win.

Alex Hernandez (3-1) picked up the win on the mound. He threw 3.1 innings in relief, scattering three hits with no runs.

Frank Suarez drove in three runs on a pair of hits to pace the Cobras at the plate, while T.J. Giczkowski, Fico Kondla, Justin Blechle and Shea Bell each drove in a run. Ernie Kirkwood also had a pair of hits with a run scored.

The Cobras will return to the diamond on Friday (Mar. 22) and Saturday (Mar. 23) for a three-game Conference Carolinas series at Mount Olive College. First pitch for Friday's game is scheduled for 6 p.m., with Saturday's double-header beginning at noon.
