Coker Splits Double-Header with Limestone

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker baseball team split its Conference Carolinas double-header with Limestone on Saturday (March 2), winning game one, 2-1 and losing game two, 7-5. The Cobras move to 11-5 overall and 4-2 in league play.

Andrew Goot (2-0) nabbed his second win of the season going 4.1 innings allowing just one hit with three strikeouts in game one. Zach Loraine (4) came on in relief going 2.2 innings allowing two hits with a strikeout, earning his fourth save of the season.

Coker scored both its runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Keith Wolf drove in one run, while going 1-for-3.  Wolf also scored the eventual winning run. Frank Suarez went 2-for-2 at the dish and Justin Blechle was 1-for-3 with a triple and a run scored.

Coker got off to a quick start in game two, scoring two runs in the first. Limestone answered with four runs in the second and the Cobras tied the game with two more runs in the bottom of the third. The Saints broke the tie with a run in the fifth and then added two insurance runs in the seventh to make it a 7-4 ball game. Coker scored their final run of the game in the ninth for a 7-5 final.

Alex Hernandez (2-1) threw 4.2 innings in relief and was charged with the loss.  He allowed three runs on three hits with a strikeout.

Brinley Griffin had multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Ernie Kirkwood and T.J. Giczkowski each drove in a run as well.

The Cobras will return to the diamond on Wednesday when they travel to Orangeburg, S.C. to take on Claflin University in a non-conference game. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
