Limestone Narrowly Defeats Coker 8-7

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker baseball suffered their first Conference Carolinas loss of the season on Friday (March 1) afternoon, dropping an 8-7 ball game to Limestone College. The loss drops the Cobras to 3-1 in league play and 10-5 overall.

The Cobras looked to have the game well in hand early on as they scored six unanswered runs over the first three innings. Limestone, however, had other plans as they scored five unanswered runs in the top of the fourth and another three in the top of the fifth to take an 8-6.  Zach Loraine's RBI single in the sixth cut the lead to just one at 8-7, but that would be all the last of the scoring, as the Saints took home the victory.

Tyler Witzel (3-2) suffered the loss on the mound for the Cobras. He allowed three runs on six hits with two strikeouts in six innings of relief work.

Fico Kondla was the leader at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Frank Suarez drove in a pair of runs and was 1-for-2 with a run scored. Keith Wolf, Brinley Griffin, T.J. Giczkowski and Loraine each drove in a run as well for the Cobras.

Coker and Limestone will complete their three-game series with a double-header on Saturday (March 2). First pitch is scheduled for noon at Tom J. New Field.
