Coker Takes Conference Series from Erskine

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker baseball team spilt their Conference Carolinas twinbill with Erskine College on Saturday afternoon winning game one 5-1 and losing game two 12-8. The Cobras won the overall series with the Flying Fleet 2-1 and improved to 22-21 overall and 12-12 in league play.

Dan Meyer (6-4) was spectacular on the mound in game one, as he earned the win scattering seven hits and allowing just one run. He threw seven innings, striking out five along the way.

At the plate, the Cobra hitters once again got the job done, scoring five runs on 10 hits. Brinley Griffin, Keith Wolf, Fico Kondla and Jake Frazier each had two hits. Griffin had a home run with two RBIs and a run scored, while Wolf had a double with two RBIs. Kondla was a perfect 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored and Fraizer scored a run.

Game two was an offensive battle as both teams combined for 20 runs on 32 hits.

Frazier collected a pair of triples with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Frank Suarez had two hits including a double with two RBIs and a run scored. Chad Nader also drove in two runs and Wolf drove in one. Griffin and Kondla picked up two more hits each in game two.

Andrew Goot (6-5) surrendered the loss, allowing nine runs on 10 hits with five strikeouts in 4.2 innings of work.

The Cobras will return to the field on Wednesday when they travel to Florence, S.C. to take on local rival Francis Marion at 7 p.m. at the Patriots new home, Sparrow Stadium.

McDonald's Player of the Game- Dan Meyer

Meyer earned his eighth complete game of the year and improved his record to 6-4, allowing just one run on seven hits with five strikeouts in the game one victory.

The McDonald's Player of the Game is presented by the Hartsville McDonald's and is given to the most outstanding performer during each Coker College home athletic event.
