Coker Takes Conference Series from St. Andrews

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker baseball team earned a 2-1 series victory over the visiting St. Andrews Knights with a win and a loss on Sunday afternoon. The Cobras lost the opening game of their doubleheader 7-5, but bounced back with a 7-4 win in game two. Adding in their win over the Knights on Friday, the Cobras captured the series win and improved to 19-19 overall and 10-11 in Conference Carolinas play.

Jake Frazier (Indian Harbor Beach, Fla.) led the offense in game one with a triple and three RBIs, while Frank Suarez (Miami, Fla.) had a pair of hits.

Andrew Goot (Oldsmar, Fla.) (6-4) was tagged with the loss. He allowed seven runs on nine hits with three strikeouts in the opening game.

In game two it was Suarez that led the Cobras at the plate. He drove in four runs on two hits, while Nathan Wilson (Milliken, Colo.) had a double and an RBI. Brinley Griffin (Port St. John, Fla.) and T.J. Sinnott (Denver, Pa.) also drove in a run apiece.

Dan Meyer (Seaford, N.Y.) (4-4) tossed his seventh complete game of the season to earn the win. He went seven innings allowing four runs on nine hits with six strikeouts.

Coker returns to action on Wednesday for a non-conference doubleheader at Mars Hill College. Game one will begin at 3 p.m.

McDonald's Player of the Game- Frank Suarez

Suarez had four hits and drove in four runs for the Cobras.

The McDonald's Player of the Game is presented by the Hartsville McDonald's and is given to the most outstanding performer during each Coker College home athletic event.
