Witzel and Kondla Lead Coker to Victory

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Tyler Witzel (Melbourne, Fla.) went the distance on the mound and Fico Kondla (Miami, Fla.) drove in a pair of runs, as Coker took down Conference Carolinas foe St. Andrews, 7-1, on Friday afternoon.

Coker (18-18, 9-10 Conf. Carolinas) took an early 1-0 lead thanks to an RBI single by Kondla in the bottom of the first inning. St. Andrews (8-25, 2-14 Conf. Carolinas) tied the game in the top of the fifth, but the Cobras plated four runs in the bottom half of the inning to regain the lead. A pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh secured the 7-1 victory for the Cobras.

Witzel (2-3) tossed a complete game scattering eight hits over nine innings, allowing just one run with three punch-outs.

Kondla was the Cobras leading hitter with three hits including a double and two RBIs. Frank Suarez (Miami, Fla.), Jake Frazier (Indian Harbor Beach, Fla.) and Lucas Britt (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) had a pair of hits each, while Keith Wolf (O'Fallon, Ill.), Chad Nader (Rock Hill, S.C.), Nathan Wilson (Milliken, Colo.) and Brinley Griffin (Port St. John, Fla.) each drove in a run.

The Cobras and the Knights will complete their three-game conference series with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon at Coker's Tom J. New Field.
