Coker Holds on for 6-4 Win Over UNC Pembroke

PEMBROKE, N.C. – Brinley Griffin (Port St. John, Fla.) was 2-for-4 with a home run and a pair of RBIs in the Cobras 6-4 win over the No. 29 UNC Pembroke Braves on Wednesday. The win gives the Cobras a 2-1 lead in their season series against the Braves.

The Cobras opened the game by plating three runs in the first inning, two of which came off the bat of Griffin, who sent a two-run blast over the right center field wall.  Pembroke pushed a run across second and another one in the fifth making it 3-2 in favor of the Cobras. The two teams exchanged runs in the sixth making it 4-3, with Coker regaining the two-run lead with another run in the seventh. A run by each team in the eighth gave the Cobras a 6-4 advantage and the eventual win.

Andrew Goot (Oldsmar, Fla.) (6-2) earned the win in an inning and a third of work. He allowed just one run on three hits with a strikeout. Matt Bowman (Streator, Ill.) (1) picked up the save in an inning and a third on the mound. He gave up just one hit with a strikeout.

Keith Wolf (O'Fallon, Ill.) was the leading hitter, going 3-for-4 with a two doubles and a run scored. Griffin and Frank Suarez (Miami, Fla.) were both 2-for-4 with a run scored, Suarez also had an RBI.

The Cobras will return to the field this weekend when they travel to North Greenville University for a three-game Conference Carolinas series. Coker will take on the Crusaders in a single game on Friday starting at 3:30 p.m. and then the two teams will meet in a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon.
