HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Sean Tracy (Farmingville, N.Y.) struck out two of the final three batters of the game to pick up his first save of the year and preserve a 5-4 come from behind win for the Coker Cobras against the Benedict College Tigers on Wednesday afternoon in collegiate baseball.

Benedict jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first taking advantage of four hits and a Coker error, but the Cobras responded with two runs of their own on three hits and a Tiger error in the bottom half of the inning making it a 3-2 ballgame.

The score remained 3-2 in favor of the Tigers until the bottom of the fourth when the Cobras scored two runs thanks to an RBI single by Jake Frazier (Indian Harbor Beach, Fla.) that scored Nick Fuoco (Palm Bay, Fla.) who led off the inning with a triple. Frazier later scored on a botched pick-off play that allowed him to come all the way around from first making it a 4-3 Cobra lead.

Coker added a much needed run in the sixth off an RBI triple by Tyler Witzel (Melbourne, Fla.) taking a 5-3 lead.

Benedict narrowed the gap to just one run in the top of the eighth when Elisha McDaniel scored on an RBI ground out by Eric Rodriquez making it 5-4.

Tracy then came on to close the door on the Tigers, facing one batter in the eighth and three in the ninth, striking out three of the four.

Jonathan Gainey (Hartsville, S.C.) (2-2) got the win going six innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits with four strikeouts. Tracy (1) went an inning and a third with three strikeouts earning the save.

Benedict’s Eric Cordova (5-2) took the loss. He allowed four runs on five hits with two strikeouts in four innings on the mound.

Frazier finished the day 2-for-3 at the plate with a triple, an RBI and two runs scored for the Cobras, while Dyson Coker (Turbeville, S.C.) also had two hits with an RBI, a run scored and two stolen bases. Fuoco finished 1-for-3 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored and Witzel had a triple with an RBI.

McDaniel was the Tigers leading hitter going 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and two runs scored, while Corey Bryant had a pair of hits and an RBI and Rodriquez and Selwyn Young each drove in a run.
