HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Cobra baseball team was unable to avoid the series sweep by Mount Olive on Sunday, as the Trojans defeated the Cobras 7-1 in game three of their Conference Carolinas series at Tom  J. New Field in Hartsville.

The game started with each team exchanging runs in the first inning, but that would be all the runs that Mount Olive would allow Coker to score. The Trojans went on to score a run in the third, two in the fifth, one in the eighth and another two in the ninth to take home the 7-1 win and the three-game sweep of the Cobras.

Tyler Witzel (Melbourne, Fla.) (3-3) threw a hard fought eight innings for the Cobras, allowing five runs on nine hits with a strikeout while taking the loss.

Jeremy Hall (3-0) got the win as he threw five innings of scoreless baseball in relief for Mount Olive. He scattered three hits and had four strikeouts in the win.

The Cobras had just four hits as Daniel Hiatt (Elwood, Ind.), Chad Nader (Rock Hill, S.C.), Jake Frazier and Dyson Coker (Turbeville, S.C.) each had a hit for the Cobras. Hiatt’s hit was a double, the only extra base hit for the Cobras during the game.

Jacob Rogers led the Trojan offense with a pair of RBI doubles, while Dan Hayduk had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Michael Knox added a pair of hits including a double and two runs scored and Daniel Coffey also had two hits with an RBI.

The Cobras will be back on the diamond on Tuesday when they travel to Newberry College for a non-conference game. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
