HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker’s freshman right-hander pitcher, Chris Garcia (Miami, Fla.), picked up the first win of his collegiate career on Friday afternoon as he tossed a magnificent eight innings for the Cobras in their 11-1 win over Clarion University.

In addition to Garcia’s stellar pitching, the Cobras used 15 hits to plate 11 runs in the win. Coker scored their runs in bunches with two runs in the second, two in the third, three in fourth and another four in the eighth. Clarion’s lone run came in the fifth inning on an RBI by Mark White.

The line on Garcia for the day was one run on four hits with seven strikeouts in eight innings on the hill. Scott Berkes (1-1) took the loss for the Golden Eagles. He allowed seven runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work.

Jake Frazier (Indian Harbor Beach, Fla.) was the Cobras leading hitter with two doubles, a triple, three RBIs, three runs scored and a stolen base. Dyson Coker (Turbeville, S.C.) added a double, three RBIs a run scored and a stolen base, while Matt Ammons (Chester, S.C.) had a pair of hits, an RBI, two runs scored and three stolen bases. Chad Nader (Rock Hill, S.C.) also had a double with an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base and Tyler Witzel (Melbourne, Fla.) was 3-for-4 with a run scored.

For Clarion, Seth Peterson was 2-for-3, while Scott Berkes and Josh Beimel each had a hit. White drove in the only run and Dane Dobson scored the run.

Coker returns to the field tomorrow to take on the No.3 ranked Trojans of Mount Olive in a three-game Conference Carolinas series. The Cobras and the Trojans will play a doubleheader tomorrow starting at noon, with game three being played on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. All three games will be played at Coker’s Tom J. New Field.
