PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Coker baseball team suffered tough loss to nationally ranked No.3 UNC Pembroke on Wednesday afternoon 6-1. Seniors Matt Ammons (Chester, S.C.) and Nick Fuoco (Palm Bay, Fla.) led the offense with three of Coker’s five hits.

Coker started the game off with a bang as they plated the game’s first run on an RBI single from Fuoco. Unfortunately, that would be all the scoring the Cobras would do.

Pembroke added a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning and then tacked on two more in the third, one in the fourth and two in the fifth making it 6-1.

Dan Meyer (Seaford, N.Y.) (0-2) allowing four runs on four hits with a strikeout in four innings of work, while Thomas Allen got the win for the Braves throwing two scoreless innings allowing just one hit.

Ammons was 2-for-4 with a double and was the only Cobra with multiple hits, while Fuoco was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Jake Frazier (Indian Harbor Beach, Fla.) had a double and a run scored and Zach Barnes (Monticello, Ind.) was 1-for-3.

The Cobras will stay on the road for their next games as they travel to Laurinburg, N.C. to take on St. Andrews in a three-game Conference Carolinas weekend series starting with a doubleheader on Saturday and finishing up with a single game on Sunday. Games will begin at noon on both days.
