FLORENCE, S.C. – Coker junior pitcher Matt Long (Florence, S.C.) picked up his first win of the summer for the Florence RedWolves of the Coastal Plain League over the weekend. Long got some nice run support from his offense in an 8-2 victory over the Petersburg Generals. The win helped the RedWolves clinch the First Half Championship in the South Division.

Long (1-1) went eight strong innings, allowing just two runs on five hits. For the summer, Long has an ERA of 1.32 in 13.2 innings of work.

The Coastal Plain League is the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 14th season, the Coastal Plain League features 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 800 alumni drafted and 36 alums make their Major League debut thus far.
