HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker and Anderson split their Conference Carolinas double-header on Friday afternoon, with Coker winning game one 6-5 and Anderson winning game two 3-1. After the day Coker is now 20-19 overall and 9-14 in the conference, while Anderson is 14-27 overall and 8-11 in conference play.

GAME ONE

In game one Anderson was first to score, posting four runs in the second inning, but Coker answered with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Coker then evened the game at four apiece with a run in the third. The Trojans scored another run in the fourth to take the 5-4 lead, but Coker tied the game again with a run in the sixth.

The game remained tied through the seventh and eighth innings, and into the bottom of the ninth. In the ninth Coker lead off the inning with a triple by Brian Luchsinger (Farmingville, N.Y.), Anderson then loaded the bases with a pair of intentional walks to bring Matthew Kearnes (Bay Shore, N.Y.) to the plate with bases loaded and no outs. Kearnes came through in the clutch with a high chopper through between third and short that brought Luchsinger home for a 6-5 Cobra win.

Tyler Witzel (West Melbounre, Fla.) (4-3) went the distance for the Cobras to earn the win. He allowed five runs on 12 hits in nine innings of work with a strikeout.

For Anderson, B.J. Scarborough (2-1) took the loss, coming on in the ninth, allowing one run on one hit with two outs.

Every single Cobra hitter had at least one hit, with Trey Lynch (Florence, S.C.) being the only Coker player with multiple hits; he had two triples with an RBI and two runs scored. Nick Fuoco (Palm Bay, Fla.) had a home run three RBIs and a run scored and Jordan Buenting (Ankeny, Iowa) and Kearnes each drove in a run.

For Anderson, Derek Hipp, Chance Thomas, Ryan Saxon, Ryan Kirkland and Erick Sanderson each had two hits for Anderson, with Thomas driving in two runs and Hipp driving in one run.

GAME TWO

Like game one, Anderson was first to score, plating a run in the first. Then after two scoreless frames, both teams exchanged runs in the fourth to give Anderson a narrow 2-1 lead. Anderson gave themselves a little extra cushion in the sixth with another run to make it 3-1. Coker tried to rally In the seventh, but was unable to get anything going, even though Buenting lead off the inning with a double to left.

David Richardson (3-1) got the win for the Trojans, going all seven innings, allowing one run on six hits, while Matt Long (Florence, S.C.) (9-4) took the loss, allowing three runs on nine hits with two strikeouts in seven innings of work.

Buenting had two hits, including a double with an RBI for Coker, while Daniel Hiatt (Elwood, Ind.) had a double and Brinley Griffin (Port St. John, Fla.), Drew Hardee (Rock Hill, S.C.) and Fuoco each had a hit.

Anderson’s Tony Price had a pair of doubles with an RBI, while Blake May also had a double. Saxon and Luke Sawyer both had an RBI apiece as well.

Coker and Anderson will complete their three game series on Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m. Prior to first pitch, Coach Dave Schmotzer and the Cobras will honor their 10 seniors with a special ceremony.
