HARTSVILLE, S.C. – A pair of stellar pitching performances led the Barton Bulldogs past the Coker Cobras 4-3 and 8-1 in their Conference Carolinas baseball double-header on Saturday afternoon.  Kramer Sneed went the distance in the first game for Barton, while John Anderson threw a complete game two hitter in game number two. The wins improve the Bulldogs to 17-17 on the year and 8-9 in the conference, while Coker falls to 17-17 overall and 8-12 in conference play.

GAME ONE

In game one Barton scored four runs in the first inning to open the game and that would be all the lead Sneed would need to secure the win. Sneed (5-2) held the Cobras to just three runs, all unearned, while giving up just seven hits with three strikeouts. All three of Coker’s runs came in the seventh inning.

Coker starter Michael Rogers (Florence, S.C.) (2-3) was tagged with the loss after giving up four runs on five hits in one inning on the mound. Tyler Witzel (West Melbourne, Fla.) was lights out for Coker in relief. Witzel shut down the Bulldogs in eight innings of relief, allowing only four hits, no runs, while striking out five.

Trey Lynch (Florence, S.C.) and Jordan Buenting (Ankeny, Iowa) each had two hits for the Cobras, with Lynch scoring a run and hitting a double.  Brinley Griffin (Port St. John, Fla.) had a triple and Drew Hardee (Rock Hill, S.C.) drove in a run.

Barton’s Wesley Francis was the only Bulldog with multiple hits, going 2-for-5, while Aaron Watkins and Braxton Lewis each drove in and scored a run. Phillip Williams also had a pair of RBIs for Barton.

GAME TWO

The game two spotlight belonged to Anderson and his ability to silence the Cobra offense. Anderson (4-2) threw five innings of no hit baseball before Matt Ammons (Chester, S.C.) drove a single into left field, one of just two Coker hits allowed by the Bulldog hurler. Anderson finished the game with just one run allowed, in seven innings of work, allowing two hits with three strikeouts.

Matt Long (Florence, S.C.) (8-3) took the loss, allowing seven runs on eight hits in four innings on the hill for Coker.

Ammons and Trevin Taber (Chesnee, S.C.) had the only hits for the Cobras, with Taber’s hit being a double.

Sam Pepper and Ryan Daughtry each had two hits and an RBI for Barton, while Williams drove in another two runs with a triple. Chris Rawlings also had a triple with an RBI and a run scored, with Watkins finishing the second game 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Coker and Barton will complete their three game series on Sunday afternoon with game number three starting at noon. The start time was originally scheduled for 1:00 p.m., but due to the threat of rain, the start time has been pushed up one hour.
