HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker Cobras lost a non-conference game to the USC-Beaufort Sand Sharks 15-5 on Tuesday afternoon. The loss drops the Cobras to 16-15 overall, while USC-B improves to 21-8.

The Sand Sharks plated runs in every inning except for the fifth, seventh and eighth, while the Cobras managed to score two runs in the second and another three in the seventh.

USC-B starter Ryan Philpott (2-0) picked up the win, going three innings allowing two runs on five hits with two strikeouts, while Coker’s Nick Fuoco (Palm Bay, Fla.) (0-1) was tagged with the loss. He gave up six runs on six hits with two strikeouts in two innings on the hill.

Jordan Buenting (Ankeny, Iowa) and Daniel Hiatt (Elwood, Ind.) each had two hits for the Cobras, while Matt Ammons (Chester, S.C.) drove in two runs and Buenting also had an RBI. Tyler Witzel (West Melbourne, Fla.) had a triple with a run scored and Trey Lynch (Florence, S.C.) was 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored.

For USC-B at the plate, David O’Neil was 4-for-5 with three runs scored, while TJ Kemp had three hits, including a double with an RBI and two runs scored. Brandon Collins had a pair of doubles with three RBIs and two runs scored and RJ Neal had a triple with three RBIs and three runs scored.

Coker returns to action on Wednesday, as they hit the road to face Paine College in Augusta, Ga. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
