NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Cobra baseball team used a solid pitching performance from senior Jonathan Gainey (Hartsville, S.C.) and an 11 run offensive outburst to take home a 11-5 road win over Newberry College on Tuesday night in a non-conference game. The win improves the Cobras to 15-12 on the year, while Newberry drops to 11-14 overall.

Gainey (1-1) earned the win in his first start of the season. He went seven innings, scattering nine hits and allowing five runs. Nick Fuoco (Palm Bay, Fla.) (1) picked up his first save of the year with a one hit two inning performance to close out the game for Coker.

Matthew Kearnes (Bay Shore, N.Y.) was 4-for-5 with his second home run in as many games, a double, three RBIs and two runs scored, while Daniel Hiatt (Elwood, Ind.) was 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Drew Hardee (Rock Hill, S.C.) and Brinley Griffin (Port St. John, Fla.) each had a pair of hits, an RBI, two runs scored and stolen base and Brian Luchsinger (Farmingville, N.Y.) had a two run homer.

Coker returns to the diamond for a Conference Carolinas three game series against Erskine College starting on Friday, March 19, with a game starting at 1:00 p.m.
