Hartsville, S.C. – The Cobra Baseball team was blanked by the UNC-Pembroke Braves 9-0 on Tuesday in collegiate baseball. Pembroke used three home runs, including two from Keith Whitman, to overtake the Cobras. The loss drops Coker to 12-23 overall, while UNC-P improves to 21-15.

Pembroke broke the scoring open in the first as Jon-Jon Mirra opened the game with a triple to left. Mirra later scored on an RBI single by Jason Morales and then Whitman hit a two run missile over the left field fence, for a 3-0 lead.

The score remained 3-0 through the fourth, until the Braves opened the flood gates for five more runs, including a two run triple from Morales and another two run homer from Whitman. Pembroke capped off their scoring in the sixth as Tom Porricelli hit a solo homer to left.

Jesse Hatchell (Florence, SC) (2-5) took the loss allowing eight runs on nine hits in four and a third innings of work.

Shawn Bumgarner earned the win holding the Cobras to just three hits in seven innings of work with three strike outs.

Leading Coker was Trey Lynch (Florence, SC) going 1-for-2 with a double, while Preston Ford (Cheraw, SC) was 1-for-3 and Kyle Walker (Centralia, SC) was 1-for-4.

For the Braves, Morales was 4-for-5 with a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored, while Whitman was 3-for-4 with two home runs, three RBIs and two runs scored. Mirra was 3-for-5 with a double, a triple and two runs scored, and Porricelli was 1-for-3 with a home run, an RBI and a run scored.

The Cobras return to the diamond on Wednesday, as they host West Virginia State at 2:00 p.m.
