Hartsville, S.C. – The Mars hill Lions certainly redeemed their late inning loss on Wednesday, as they pounded out 16 runs against Coker, for a 16-8 victory in collegiate baseball Thursday afternoon. The win takes the Lions to 18-13 overall, while the Cobras fall to 11-20 overall.

Mars Hill got the offense started early scoring 10 runs in the first two innings, capped with a two run homer in the first by Austin Boehme and a three run homer in the second by Matt Oleski.

The Cobras managed a run of their own in the first off an RBI single from Scott Amann (New Athens, IL), followed by a three run effort in the third, highlighted by a pair of doubles from Kyle Walker (Centralia, IL) and BK Harfst (Arvada, CO) along with an RBI single Julio Gomez (Santa Fe, NM) and a two RBI single from Will Poole (Pelion, SC), bringing the score to 10-4.

The Lions took the lead to 14-4 in the fourth, with the help of a one run single by Daniel Coffey and a two run triple by Oleski. After a scoreless fifth, the Cobras returned to the board, scoring four runs in the bottom half of the sixth. This time it was a pair of RBI singles form Preston Ford (Cheraw, SC) and Walker, along with an RBI double from Gomez that brought the game to 14-8.

Mars Hill nailed the coffin securely shut in the ninth scoring their final two runs of the game, for a 16-8 win.

Mikael Owens (Columbia, SC) (3-3) took the loss, allowing five on five hits with a strike out.

Danny Miller earned the win for Mars Hill allowing four runs on five hits in two and two-thirds innings of work.

At the plate for Coker, Poole and Gomez each had two hits and two RBIs with a run scored, while Walker had two hits and an RBI with three runs scored.

For the Lions, Oleski was a just a single away for the cycle, going 4-for-5 with a home run, two triples and a double, with seven RBIs and four runs scored. Miller was 3-for-5 at the plate with a double, an RBI and four runs scored, while Boehme was 2-for-5 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Coker returns to the diamond on Friday, as they host Anderson University in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader. Game time is noon.
