GAFFNEY, S.C.—Limestone’s Clayton Knight (Moncks Corner, S.C.) pitched a compete game to lead the Saints to a 6-0 shutout against Coker in game one of the Conference Carolinas series. The Cobras fell to 2-11 in conference play after the loss (10-17 overall), while Limestone improves to 7-6 in the league (16-12 overall). Game two of today’s doubleheader was postponed due to the inclement weather.

Knight recorded eight strikeouts as his record improves to 4-0 this season.

Limestone scored its first run in the bottom of the fourth as Ryan McKenzie (Dunedin, Fla.) singled to score Phillip Soden (Inman, S.C.). Drew Lydon (White Plains, Md.) led off the fifth inning with a double, followed by a triple from Zach Watkins (Albany, Ga.). Watkins came home on a single from Josh Izokovic (Shelby, N.C.).

The Saints had two more runs in the sixth for the win. With runners on first and third, Lydon doubled to bring Kyle Brewer (Gruetli-Laager, Tenn.) and A.J. Bsharah (East Kentwood, Mich.) home.  Limestone’s final run of the game came in the eighth. Bsharah tripled, and then scored from Brewer’s base hit.

Brewer and Bsharah both hit 3-4, while Izokovic and Lydon were 2-4.

Jesse Hatchell (Florence, S.C.) took the loss after giving up 14 hits and six earned runs in eight innings of work. He recorded five strikeouts. Kyle Walker (Centrailia, Ill.) was 2-4 at bat.

Limestone and Coker are scheduled to play tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
